Rolling Mills 1

Rolling Mill 1 or known as Rebar Mill starts their commercial operation on April 1981 with producing capacity:

  • 70 000 metric tan per year in 2 shift operation
  • 140 000 metric tan per year in 3 shift operation
At the end of year 1996, ANTARA STEEL MILLS SDN.BHD. was achieved their production from 155 000 metric tan per year. The increasing of capacity achieved through the changes in the production process. Types of product that it produced are:
  • Mild Steel Round Bar(MRSB)
  • High Tensile Deformed Bar(HTDB)
  • High Tensile Vanadium Bar(HTVDB)

Rolling Mill 1 can be divided with 5 sections with its own function:

    1. Furnace

Reheating furnace at Rebar Mill is from a Pusher Type Reheating Furnace. The main function of this is receiving a billet and reheating again to a temperature before billet entering rolling section. The process in this section starts by checking the billet length and pieces of billet. It’s necessary to make sure the numbers of billet entry in furnace is the same when it exits. After that, crane will put up and carry out the billet to charging grade and pushed into Reheating by using Hydraulic Pusher. It can recover 12 pieces in one time. The billets reheat in two hours. This machine able to covered 245 pieces in two hours with temperature has set to 1250 Celsius (most lowest) and 320 Celsius degree (most higher).

 

    2. Rolling

The function of this section is to produce a round bar from one billet that produce at steel plant. The important process at this section is the changing process of physical billet from square to round bar or angle bar. To produce a changing of this billet it will go through a few rolling process. Rolling is the main section in RM 1 and it’s responsible to produce the billet according the size required and meets the standard. The billet going through a few processes before it’s become a finished product. This section can roll 800 pieces per 8 hour if breakdown does not occur. The rolling workers responsible to make sure no miss roll and breakdown occur because it can affect the production activity.


    3. Electrical

This section function to support production activities in order to ensure that all activities in production can moves smoothly. The main objective is to make sure that crane 4 and 5 in furnace can function properly and to make sure that Charging in Motor at furnace can function to push the billet into reheating furnace. Pusher Motor or P2 are under Section Electrical responsibilities and they must make sure that this system can operate to push billet out to rolling. In rolling there have some system that had been install in a few place. Beside that, there are other functions in this department:
  • To make sure the system in production can function properly.
  • Try to reduce downtime / breakdown by making random checking once per shift.
  • Upgrading motor system.

    4. Mechanical

Mechanical also has similar function with the electrical section. They are responsible for any mechanical equipment or machine in production. If any machines breakdown they need to solve promptly. So in here we can look how this section is important in supporting production process.


    5. Guide Shop

Guide Shop is one section to prepare spare part or accessories for production uses like guide, channel and others. In order to ensure that production can move smoothly employees in this section need to prepare spare part for all equipment used in production. It is necessary because when breakdown happen guide shop still have spare part for those equipment. So when breakdown happen on the night shift, employees in production line can change that equipment without any problem. Every time when size has to change, guide shop will prepare all those things that needed by the production.
